    Summary Information:
    The Burketown 'More Resources for the State School' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is aimed at promoting literacy among school children and the broader community through the introduction of innovative approaches to literacy and information technology in the Burketown State School.

    Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding.     Detailed Information:

    Purpose

    The SRA will build on the literacy results being achieved at the Burketown State School through the provision of innovative reading and IT resources and equipment; and mentoring and specialist reading programs; and IT services focusing on literacy.

    Shared Responsibilities

    The local community will plan and deliver the Innovative Reading and Information and Community Technology (ICT) Literacy Program. Community members will provide cultural input, develop rules for accessing the program, and monitor its results. Families will actively encourage reading, and the whole community will be encouraged to take part in the program.

    The Commonwealth Government will purchase reading resources and provide specialist instructors, computers, printers, software and other support.

    The Burke Shire Council will contribute an officer for IT training.

    The Burketown State School will allow community access to IT facilities, and will provide additional IT support.
