Summary Information:
The City of Maribyrnong was created in December 1994 when the City of Footscray was merged with part of the City of Sunshine. It covers 31.2 square kilometres and has a population of 60,000 residents.

Maribyrnong includes the suburbs of Braybrook, Footscray, Kingsville, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Seddon, Tottenham, West Footscray, and Yarraville.

The 1996 Australian Census estimates that there are now approximately 2,500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in the western region of Melbourne, of which 250 persons live in the City of Maribyrnong, representing 0.42% of the City's population.
