Bungil Shire is located in the Maranoa area of South West Queensland. 'The Shire covers an area of 13,338 square kilometres with a population of 1951 of which approx 350 live in the town of Injune. […] The Shire is predominately rural. The three main rural pursuits in the Shire are beef production, grain growing and wool growing. Sheep numbers have dramatically decreased since 1970 and cattle numbers have increased. […] The Shire has a large natural gas and coal seam methane gas (CSM) resource. Significant expansion to the gas fields is taking place to the East of Injune' and a CSM field north east of Roma in the Durham Downs area is being developed.
