Atherton Shire Council was the local government for Atherton Shire, located 90 kilometres south-west of Cairns. As at 30 June 2007, the area had an Estimated Resident Population of 11,936 (ABS 2008).
On 15 March 2008, Atherton Shire was amalgamated with three other councils to form the Tablelands Regional Council.
