Sub Category:Proprietary Company

Summary Information:
Western Agricultural Industries (WAI) is a joint venture between Kimberley Agricultural Industries and Queensland Cotton Holdings. In 1997, WAI was involved in a proposal to construct several dams on the Fitzroy River for the purposes of irrigation for the establishment of a cotton industry in the west Kimberley. Community opposition and work by the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Conservation Council of Western Australia and the traditional owners of the land that would be affected by the proposal, caused WAI to withdraw its proposal.
