Communities and homelands extend from Coober Pedy in South Australia to west of Warburton in Western Australia, and include Docker River, Mutitjulu, Imanpa and Finke in the Northern Territory.
Detailed Information:
The Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara people formed the Pitjantjatjara Council in 1976.The Council became the focal point for political and land-based discussions and negotiations with governments and the mining industry. It was the group through which decisions were made and negotiations conducted with the South Australian Government in relation to the Pitjantjatjara Land Rights Act.

The Council now has a refocussed role as a Resource Centre, taking direction from Anangu Pitjantjatjara (AP) working to help it fulfil its statutory obligations in relation to management of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands. It plays a significant role in support of AP with Council staff providing professional services to AP Council, community organisations and Anangu individuals. The Council also fulfils an important legal and anthropological function for AP, being the trustee of some of its operations and fulfilling roles which AP is statutorily unable to carry out on its own.
