Subject Matter: | Cultural Heritage | Education | Environmental Heritage | Recognition of Traditional Rights and Interests
Summary Information:
In the Statement of Reconciliation, the staff of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service acknowledge that the Indigenous peoples are the original custodians of the lands and waters, animals and plants of New South Wales and its many and varied landscapes.
They acknowledge the suffering and injustice that resulted from colonisation and that this continues today for many Aboriginal people.

As people working in a government land management agency, they acknowledge:
  • A special responsibility in finding creative and positive ways to move forward together with a shared understanding of the past.
  • That the Aboriginal peoples of New South Wales, despite being dispossessed, maintain a diversity of living cultures and a unique and deeply felt attachment to the lands and waters of New South Wales. In the role of managing and conserving natural and cultural heritage a commitment is made not only to respect this attachment but also to learn from it.

The Statement also includes commitments by the staff relating to areas of land management techniques, information management, survey and research, environmental assessment and education.
