The Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) is based in Maningrida in the Northern Territory and was established in 1970 as an outstation resource centre. BAC established a formal land management program in the early 1990s and successfully sought resources and training for community rangers. BAC is a professionally run organisation with a large annual grant budget. There is significant Aboriginal employment and involvement in BAC operations. In 1998 BAC secured a 10 year lease under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 over an area of approximately 426 hectares for its Ranger Station facility.
