The Karajarri People are the Aboriginal owners of country stretching across the Great Sandy Desert and along the Indian Ocean coastline for more than 200 kilometres. They are also custodians of the western part of the Canning Basin, the largest undeveloped sedimentary groundwater basin in Western Australia. In February 2002, the Federal Court gave legal recognition to the Karajarri People's native title rights over a 24,725 sq km area of land in the western Kimberley region.
