Warraber Island is located 72 kilometres north-east of Thursday Island in the Torres Strait in far north Queensland. The Council was one of over twenty island and Aboriginal councils of the Torres Strait. The Warraber Island Council was responsible for municipal services and is involved in the provision of medical services, public utilities and housing.
It was, however, replaced by the Torres Strait Islands Regional Council in 2008 as part of the State government's amalgamation policy. |
