Summary Information:
Townsville is the capital city of North Queensland. It has a population of approximately 146,000 people. It boasts extensive and broadly based business interests with large manufacturing and service related industries. The Port of Townsville services such industries as minerals, sugar and beef. James Cook University, the Australian Institute of Marine Science and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority are located in Townsville as are thousands of Defence Force personnel who form northern Australia’s largest Defence contingent.
