Kistler Satellite Launch Project Agreement

Date: 1 June 1998
Sub Category:Future Act Agreement (Native Title Act) | Land Use Agreement
Place:Woomera
State/Country:South Australia, Australia
Subject Matter: | Native Title
Summary Information:
Four native title claimant groups (the Kuja, Nukunu, Barngala and Kokotha peoples) comprising the Port Augusta Native Title Working Group, signed agreements with subsidiaries of the Kistler Aerospace Corporation and the South Australian Government to begin the (AUD) $50 million development of a commercial satellite launch project. The Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement, the Native Title Representative Body for the region, supplied administrative support and assistance through their Native Title Unit. Spaceport Woomera will build and operate a commercial spaceport at the Ashton Hill site from which Kistler Woomera will operate the K-1 fully reusable aerospace vehicle being developed by its parent Kistler Aerospace Corporation. A work area clearance agreement allowed work to proceed ensuring the protection of significant sites. A consent agreement has been signed (which enables the State Government to vary the activities allowed on a pastoral lease) as well as a project agreement (determining how the native title claimants will be involved).
