Charles Darwin University was formed through a merger between the Northern Territory University and Centralian College in 2003, although its origins stretch back to adult education classes which commenced in 1951.
The University has approximately 19,000 students and as such, is the Northern Territory's major tertiary institution (CDU 2008).
The University has campuses and education centres spread across the Northern Territory, including in the main campus in Casuarina (Darwin) and in Palmerston, Tennant Creek, Yulara, Jabiru, Katherine, Nhulunbuy (Gove) and Alice Springs (CDU 2008).
