Summary Information:
The Australian Atomic Energy Commission was established by section 8 of the Atomic Energy Act 1953 (the Act). The Commission was made up of a Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and not more than 3 other members who are appointed by the Governor General. The powers of the Commission were set out under Section 17 of the Act. The Australian Atomic Energy Commission is the predecessor of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANTSO) which was established in 1987.
