In 1984 the Jabiru Town Council was established under the Jabiru Town Development Act 1978 (NT). The Jabiru Town Council provided administration and municipal services to Jabiru. However, it was absorbed by the West Arnhem Shire in 2008 as part of the large scale amalgamation process in the Northern Territory. Jabiru Town Council's mission was ‘to enhance the well-being of the community and maintain the quality of the town infrastructure, through the provision of effective and efficient services consistent with the needs, aspirations and resources of the community’.
