Summary Information:
The Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act 1993 ratifies and gives effect to the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement signed on 25 May 1993. The aims of the Act are to: 1) To provide certainty and to clarify rights of ownership to land, and rights of participation of Inuit; 2) To provide Inuit with wildlife harvesting rights and rights to participate in related decision making; 3) To provide financial compensation and the means to participate in economic opportunities for Inuit; and 4) To encourage self-reliance and the cultural and social well being of Inuit.
