A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 4 February 2004 in Darwin by the Northern Land Council and Jobfind Centres Australia concerning the provision of employment and training services for nine Arnhem Land Aboriginal communities, including those of Galiwin’ku, Maningrida, Ramingining, Gunbalanya, Warruwi, Minjilang, Milingimbi, Gapuwiyak and Jabiru. This project is funded by the Department of Employment, Education and Training and the Federal Department of Education, Science and Training. The goal is to create jobs for the Indigenous communities in Northern Territory outside Darwin. The project was initially started two years ago for the Indigenous communities in Darwin and is extended to remote communities. 19 out of the 21 graduates of the program in Darwin have been employed or placed in apprenticeships. 150 young people are expected to be trained. |
