The Dettah community is located on the eastern side of Yellowknife Bay on the Great Slave Lake. It was established in the 1930s as a fishing camp, prior to the establishment of the city of Yellowknife. The community was subsequently joined by Dogrib and Chipewyan people who sought work in the mines whilst continuing a traditional lifestyle. Current economic and traditional activities of the community include hunting, trapping and fishing. Dettah and Ndilo form the headquarters of the Yellowknife Dene. |
