The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to the National Framework on Indigenous Family Violence and Child Protection (the Framework) at the Council of Australian Governments' Meeting on 25 June 2004. The Framework acknowledges the agreement of all levels of government in all jurisductions that 'preventing family violence and child abuse in indigenous families is a priority for action that requires a national effort.' Jurisdictions are to formalise their cooperation through bilateral arrangements between the Commonwealth and State and Territory Governments. A range of principles will guide actions to prevent family violence and child abuse in indigenous families including:
-Safety;
-Partnerships;
-Support;
-Strong, resilient families;
-Local solutions; and
-Addressing the cause. | |
