The Quilpie Shire Council is located in the far south-west corner of Queensland and covers an area of approximately 67,000 square kilometres, making it one of the largest local government regions in southern Queensland. The shire is home to approximately 1290 people.
The primary industries in the Shire are sheep and cattle grazing, oil, gas and opal mining. The main townships of the Shire are Quilpie, Eromanga, Toompine, Adavale and Cheepie.
