The Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation (NNAC) was formed under the Aboriginal Councils and Association Act 1996 (Cth) to represent the Narungga people. The NNAC works to advance the interests of the Narungga people. The Corporation's Rules state that its aims include: - facilitating claims and applying to the National Native Title Tribunal and Federal Court for recognition of their rights and interests;
- initiating legal proceedings to protect and preserve places of historical, social, cultural and spiritual significance;
- entering into agreements on their behalf, or as trustee;
- representing the people of the Narungga Nation Native Title Claiim; and
- engaging in business activities to promote the members' self-sufficiency.
In the event that the Narungga Nation Native Title Claim application is determined successfully, the NNAC intends to become the registered native title body corporate in order to perform the functions prescribed under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth). The NNAC intends to hold the Narungga Nation's determined native title rights and interests in trust. |
