Malu Ki'ai (Torres Strait Islanders) Corporation is the registered native title body corporate nominated as trustee of the Boigualgal's native title as determined in Gibuma on behalf of the Boigu People v State of Queensland [2004] FCA 1575 (10 December 2004). The Corporation was incorporated on 7 January 2002 under the Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976 (Cth). Article 6 of the Rules of Association set out the objects of the Corporation. They are to hold the native title rights and interests of the Boigualgal native title holders on trust, to perform the functions of a registered native title body corporate under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), to consult with the native title holders and enter into agreements on their behalf and to ensure that the interests of the Boigualgal native title holders are paramount. Membership of the Malu Ki'ai (Torres Strait Islanders) Corporation is open to adult Boigualgal native title holders whether they live at Boigu Island or elsewhere. |
