    Summary Information:
    The Alpurrurlum 'Community Centre and Internet Café' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was signed between the Alpurrurlum Community, the Southern Barkley Aboriginal Corporation and the Northern Territory and Commonwealth governments. Under the SRA, a community centre will be built in Alpurrurlum. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding.     Detailed Information:
    Purpose The SRA focuses on training and employment. The construction of a community centre in Alpurrurlum will provide a place to hold meetings, heatlh education sessions and training in computers, community radio and the internet. Alpurrrurlum's health clinic and school will also hold training in the new centre. Shared Responsibilities Under the SRA, the community will provide apprentices for the construction of the centre. These apprentices will undertake structured training during this time. Once the centre is constructed, the community will bear opeartional costs and be responsible for maintenance. Centrelink recipients will assist in the Centre, particularly with the running of the internet cafe, community radio and arts and crafts activities. The Northern Territory and Commonwealth Governments will provide funding for the foundations and building materials required for constructing the Centre. Equipment for the internet café will also be provided. Additional Community Development Employment Program places will be created and funded. The Australian Government's investment in the project is $15,000. The Alpurrurlum 'Community Centre and Internet Café' SRA will be negotiated by the Tennant Creek Indigenous Coordination Centre.
