The Inuit Relations Secretariat is a bureaucracy established within the Department of Indian and Northern Development (DIAND). It is the focal point of the Inuit Partnership Accord signed in 2005. The Secretariat is to provide an important point of contact on Inuit matters for departments and agencies of the Canadian Federal Government. It is to provide information, expertise and advice on policy and programs matters concerning Inuit. The Secretariat is further to support action plans on Inuit issues across the federal Government and is to foster collaboration among federal departments and agencies, and with the provinces, territories and governance structures. The Secretariat is also to work closely with the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami to support the Parties to the Inuit Partnership Accord in the development of the Government of Canada-Inuit Action Plan. It will assist in the implementation of the Action Plan and in the preparation of the annual reports of the joint steering committee.
