The Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania (ALCT) is a statutory authority which was established under the Aboriginal Lands Act 1995 (Tas). The ALCT has responsibility for the use and sustainable management of statutorily defined Aboriginal Land which it holds in perpetuity for all Tasmanian Aboriginal people. The Act provides for the election of the ALCT to hold and manage lands vested by the Act on behalf of the Aboriginal people of Tasmania. The Council is comprised of 8 committee members elected for a 3 year term. Two members are selected from each of the Southern region, Northern region, North-West region, and one member from each of the Cape Barren Island ground and the Flinders Island group. |
