The Indigenous Protected Area Advisory Group (IPAAG) was established in June 1999 by the Minister for Environment and Heritage. Its central function was to provide advice on the development of the Indigenous Protected Areas Program (IPA).
IPAAG has representation from Indigenous people across Australia as well as other stakeholders such as the World Wide Fund for Nature and Government Nature Conservation Agencies. IPAAG meets at least once per year to provide policy advice and direction to the Minister for Environment and Heritage and the Department of the Environment and Heritage on the continued development of the IPA.
