| The Mossman Gorge 'Improving Economic Opportunities' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was signed between the Commonwealth government, the Quuensland government and the local Indigenous community to develop tourism opportunities for the community.
Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. Purpose
The SRA aims to increase economic opportunities for locals by tapping into the economic potential of the one million tourists who visit Mossman Gorge annually. The SRA will provide a Business Manager to indentify business opportunities.
Shared Responsibility
The Commonwealth government's contribution to the SRA totals $105,000. Along with the Queensland government, this will fund the Business Manager position. Computer facilities will also be updated.
The community wil work with the Business Manager to pursue sustainable business opportunities, and undertake skills training programs.
The Mossman Gorge SRA will be administered by the Cairns Indigenous Coordination Centre. | |
