According to its explanatory notes, the three main objectives of the Water Act 2000 (Qld) are:
‘Sustainable management framework for the planning allocation and use of water and other resources;
Regulatory framework for service providers covering asset management, customer standards, and dam safety; and
Governance regime for statutory authorities that provide water services.’
The Act states that 'sustainable management' includes 'recognising the interests of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders and their connection with the landscape in water planning' (s10(2)(c)(v)). |
