The Shire of East Pilbara is 'the world's largest shire' and has a population of approximately 7912. (Shire of East Pilbara Website, January 2007) 'The Shire of East Pilbara covers 379,571 square kilometres of territory and includes the town sites of Marble Bar, Nullagine, Newman and a number of Aboriginal Communities, the largest being Jigalong.'
