World Vision Australia (WVA) is the Australian operation of World Vision, an international partnership which was founded in the 1950s in the United States of America.
WVA is Australia’s largest overseas aid and humanitarian organisation. (World Vision Australia Website, January 2007a). The Christian organisation provides emergency relief and is also involved in 'long-term development projects with local communities to address the causes of poverty'. (World Vision Australia Website, January 2007a).
WVA's Indigenous Partnerships Program, 'Linking Hands' aims to address the following aims:
- 'Facilitate effective sustainable development in Indigenous Australia through quality long-term community based programs
- Increase opportunities for Indigenous youth through education, skills and training development
- Advocate and raise awareness on Indigenous issues and disadvantage in the wider community.' (World Vision Australia Website, January 2007b).
WVA's Indigenous Partnerships Program has involved work with communities such as Armadale in Western Australia and Wetengerr in the Northen Territory. | |
