    The Kununurra-Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation was incorporated in 1979 pursuant to the Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976 (Cth). The objects of the Kununurra-Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation include: The support and/or provision of services for:
  • ‘the social development of its members in all ways’;
  • ‘accounting, bookkeeping, administration, community development services for its members’;
  • ‘social and recreational activities of Aboriginal people of Kununura and young people in particular’;
  • ‘bring[ing] about the self support of its members by the development of economic projects and industries’;
  • ‘education, job training, health services, work and housing for its members’;
  • ‘management of affairs upon [member’s] own lands’;
  • the encouragement of members ‘to keep and renew their traditional culture’;
  • ‘participat[ion] with other Aboriginal Associations in projects for their mutual benefit’;
  • the receipt and spending of ‘grants of money from the Government of the Commonwealth or of the State or from other sources’;
  • the establishment and operation ‘a radio broadcasting station by and for Aboriginal people of the Kununurra region.’ (ORAC Website, 1998) It is party to the Regional Partnership Agreement on Indigenous Employment in the East Kimberley.
