Summary Information:

The Thaa-Nguigaar Strathgordon Aboriginal Corporation is the registered native title body corporate nominated as the Strathgordon Mob's agent to manage their native title as determined by consent in Timothy James Malachi on behalf of the Strathgordon Mob v State of Queensland [2007] FCA 1084.

The Thaa-Nguigaar Strathgordon Aboriginal Corporation was incorporated under the Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976 on 22 June 2007. According to the Corporation’s rules, it has been established to: (a) 'be the subject of the determination under section 57 of the Native Title Act 1993; (b) be a registered native title body corporate in relation to the determination area for the purpose of the Native Title Act 1993; (c) perform the functions of a registered native title body corporate that does not hold native title rights and interests in trust for the common law holders under the Native Title Act 1993 and regulations. These include: i. to act as agent or representative of the native title holders in respect of the native title; ii. to manage the native title of the native title holders as authorised by the native title holders; iii. to hold money, (including payments received as compensation or otherwise related to the native title rights and interests) in trust; iv. to invest or otherwise apply money held in trust as directed by the native title holders; v. to consult with the native title holders in accordance with the rules; vi. to perform any other function in relation to the native title rights and interests as directed by the native title holders; (d) protect the native title rights and interests of the native title holders; (e) promote the recognition of the native title rights and interests of the native title holders; (f) advance the cultural, social, political, economic and legal interests, including by establishing appropriate legal entities to achieve these objectives; (g) take advantage of investment and commercial opportunities that arise or relate to the native title holders and to exploit those opportunities to generate assets and funds for charitable purposes and employment opportunities for the native title holders; and (h) perform any other functions that are ancillary or incidental to but not inconsistent with the performance of functions of the registered native title body corporate'.
