Weipa Town Authority was formed to undertake local government functions for Weipa township on behalf of Rio Tinto Australia. Weipa is a mining town on the west coast of Cape York. The Authority consists of four elected community representatives, two appointees of Rio Tinto and an appointee of the Traditional Owners.
