The Urapuntja Indigenous Community is located about 250 kilometres northeast of Alice Springs, and consists of 16 homelands (outstations). Urapuntja is also known as Utopia. Locations include Tommyhawk Swamp, Amengernterneah, Ngkwarlerlanem, Arlparra and Ankerrapw.
The 2006 census counted 769 Indigenous persons usually resident in Urapuntja Indigenous Area. Of those persons, 63.8% were Alyawarr speakers, 11.3% Anmatyerr speakers, and 11.8% spoke English only. Other minority languages include Kaytetye, Arrernte and Luritja. |
