According to its Strategic Plan 2007/2008 - 2009/2010 (at 3), Aboriginal Medical Service Western Sydney (AMS Western Sydney) 'is an Aboriginal community controlled medical service and is run by local Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people'.
It is located within the areas of the Deerubbin Local Aboriginal Land Council and the Sydney West Area Health Service (SWAHS).
AMS Western Sydney was previously known as Daruk Aboriginal Medical Service, which began in August 1987. AMS Western Sydney commenced operating with its own staff and larger premises in August 1988. The name 'Aboriginal Medical Service Western Sydney' was officially adopted in 2006.
