The Ministry of Maori Affairs was established in 1992 under the Ministry of Maori Development Act 1991 (NZ). The Ministry advises government and provides services 'to assist Maori achieve their development aims.' It seeks to promote Maori success in education, employment, health and economically. It monitors the provision of services to Maori by mainstream agencies (Ministry of Maori Development, 2007).
