The New Zealand Historic Places Trust is a statutory charitable trust which aims to identify, protect and conserve 'the historical and cultural heritage of New Zealand' as a means for New Zealanders to better understand their 'history and identity' (New Zealand Historic Places Trust, 2008).
The Trust is administered by the Board of Trustees and the Maori Heritage Council. The latter has a specific role in the preservation of wahi tapu sites, assisting the Trustees and whanau, hapu and iwi in resource management and advocating for the Trust in relation to Maori heritage (New Zealand Historic Places Trust, 2008). |
