| Fish and Game New Zealand is 'an angler and gamebird hunter association' with statutory responsibility to manage freshwater sport fishing and gamebird hunting. It issues licences permitting people to take part in these activities.
It is divided into twelve regional councils - Northland, Auckland/Waikato, Eastern, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Wellington, Nelson/Marlborough, West Coast, North Canterbury, Central South Island, Otago and Southland.
