Ngai Te Rangi is the largest of three iwi at Tauranga. It has the largest population and the largest rohe. The name of the tribe is a shortened form of the name of their ancestor, the chief and warrior, Te Rangihouhiri (Ngaiterangi Iwi, 2008).
