The South African Supplier Development Agency (SASDA) was created by a Memorandum of Understanding Between the Department of Minerals and Energy (South Africa) and the South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA). According to its website, the organisation's chief aim is to 'accelerate progress in the empowerment of HDSAs [historically disadvantaged South Africans] in the petroleum industry, through increased access to industry procurement opportunities by:
» Accrediting suppliers to evaluate their BEE [Black Economic Empowerment] status.
» Developing black suppliers' skills to meet industry's required standards.
» Capacity building through direct support and partnership with the developmental agency.'
