The Partnership Agreement is designed to enhance health and social and community services for Indigenous people in far west New South Wales (The Fred Hollows Foundation 2008).
| | Detailed Information: | | | The parties 'will focus on community-based programs that tackle social factors affecting health, addressing issues such as safety, self-esteem, skills development and mentoring' (The Fred Hollows Foundation 2008).
The parties will initially work together in relation to existing community services - namely, the WINGS Drop-in Centre in Wilcannia and the Youth, Excellence, Arts and Health (YEAH) program in Broken Hill. WINGS provides an environment for young people to participate in activities such as sports, cooking, games and movies. YEAH trains young people in circus activites, to improve teamwork, life skills and self-esteem.
The partnership builds upon the work of the parties in the far western NSW area, and is part of their long-term commitment to 'Close the Gap' between Indigenous and non-Indigenous health outcomes.
