Forestry Tasmania is an agency of the Tasmanian government with statutory responsibility for the management of State forests and forestry reserves (covering approximately 1.5 million hectares amounting to 39% of the forests of Tasmania). The responsibilities of Forestry Tasmania include the conduct of commercial activities involving the production of timber and other forest products and services in accordance with the objective of long term ecological sustainability. As of 2009 Forestry Tasmania had approximately 500 staff, including foresters, scientists, engineers, surveyors, administrators and economists. |
