The Walalakoo Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC administers land as trustee on behalf of the Nyikina Mangala people. Their ownership over the land was first recognised in the Nyikina Mangala determination of 2014 (Watson on behalf of the Nyikina Mangala People v State of Western Australia (No 6) [2014] FCA 545).
This case arose from a native title claim made in 1998 by the Nyikina Mangala people. The Nyikina Mangala application covers an area of approximately 26, 215 square kilometres of land and waters located to the south of Derby, east of Broome and west of Fitzroy Crossing. A second determination on behalf of the Nyikina Mangala was made in Watson on behalf of the Nyikina Mangala People (Nyikina Mangala #2) v State of Western Australia (No 6) [2015] FCA 1132. The corporation also administers the Boorroola Moorrool Moorrool Native Title Part A Claim Group's native title as determined in Shaw on behalf of the Boorroola Moorrool Moorrool Native Title Claim Group v State of Western Australia [2020] FCA 1700. |
