Summary Information:
The Project Agreement for the Rheumatic Fever Strategy ('the Agreement') is an intergovernmental agreement between the Commonwealth, Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory Governments. The Agreement supports the delivery of the Rheumatic Fever Strategy (RFS) in these state and territory jurisdictions. This strategy is a ‘first step’ towards eradicating acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease in Australia. Indigenous people living in remote areas of Australia have among the highest rates of these preventable causes of illness and death in the world (Cl 2).
Detailed Information:
The output of the Agreement is the improved detection, monitoring and management of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through coordinated register and control programs. The Commonwealth commits a total contribution of $10.395 million to the States and Territory in respect of the Agreement. In addition, it agrees to monitor and assess achievement against milestones of project delivery and provide ongoing policy leadership under the RFS. The State and Territory parties will be responsible for all aspects of delivery and reporting on the project outputs. They agree to work with the Commonwealth and other key stakeholers, including the RFS National Coordination Unit, to implement a national consistent and collaborative project. Part 4 of the Agreement summarises the milestones for the project, their relationship to the outputs, expected completion dates, relevant reporting dates and expected payment schedule.
