The Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation Ltd (YSRC) is an Australian public company incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and limited by guarantee. On 4 February 2020, the YSRC became a registered charity with the purpose of representing, assisting, and supporting the people of the Yamatji Nation whose native title claims over 48,000 sq km in the midwest of Western Australia were finalised in the negotiated Yamatji Nation Southern Regional Agreement (the YNSRA). The Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation celebrated the YNSRA as the first of its kind in Australian history because it involved both native title recognition and a comprehensive economic package (2020). Chair of the Yamatji Nation, Fred Taylor, noted that having a public company registered with ASIC, instead of an Indigenous corporation under ORIC, gives the Yamatji Nation greater freedom for commercial growth (National Indigenous Times). The YSRC is responsible for implementing the Yamatji Nation Indigenous Land Use Agreement on behalf of the community and for setting the Yamatji Nation Strategic Plan. |
