The objects of this act are: - to promote the efficient and environmentally responsible production and use of electricity, and to deliver its safe and reliable supply;
- to give powers to network operators that are necessary for them to construct, operate, repair and maintain electricity infrastructure;
- to promote and encourage safety in relation to generation, transmission, distribution and use of electricity; and
- ensure that significant disruptions to electricity supply in emergencies are managed effectively.
