The City of Yarra Aboriginal Advisory Group is a Council sponsored group which provides a mechanism for Indigenous participation in municipal decision making. The Yarra Aboriginal Advisory Group was established in 1999 and provides advice to the Council on local Indigenous matters. In 2002, the Yarra Aboriginal Advisory Group outlined 2 key strategic partnership directions for Yarra Council and the local Indigenous Australian community. These were the development of a Partnership Plan between the City of Yarra and the Wurundjeri people, and the preparation of an action plan to address social justice issues for local Indigenous people. | ||

The Yarra Aboriginal Advisory Group has several stated objectives. These are to: '-provide a structure for on-going consultation between the Indigenous community and Yarra City Council across a broad range of issues such as health, housing, legal, sport and recreation, culture, heritage, environment, employment, training and child-care; -provide Council with strategic advice regarding issues pertinent to the Wurundjeri people and issues pertaining to social justice for Indigenous Australians; -assist Council to identify its' on-going role in regards to issues affecting local Indigenous Australians.' Membership of the Yarra Aboriginal Reconciliation Group will consist of representatives from local Indigenous organisations and representatives from the City of Yarra. The Yarra Aboriginal Advisory Group was established as a partnership between Yarra City Council and the local Indigenous Australian community. |
