The Lismore City Council's Strategic Plan 1996/97 was prepared in May 1996.

The Vision Statement reads:
Lismore City Council's vision is to ensure that Indigenous communities have an equal role in determining the strategies and directions that will shape our community through greater understanding and recognition of Indigenous culture and identity and effective participation in Council's planning and operations on an ongoing basis.
The goals set out in the Plan include:
To increase Indigenous community participation in Local Government;
To break down racial and cultural barriers;
To encourage Indigenous Australians to enrol to vote and participate in the census;
To heighten the mainstream community's awareness of Indigenous culture;
To utilise the media to educate and inform the mainstream community of Indigenous issues; and
To facilitate systemic change and reform in Local Government. | |
