Summary Information: | ||
A Commitment to Indigenous Australians was signed by the Mayor and General Manager of the Parkes Shire Council.
Detailed Information:
The Commitment states: Parkes Shire Council acknowledges that Indigenous Australians were the first people to inhabit this land and have lived with European settlement for more than 200 years. The arrival of European settlement brought massive change to the Australian landscape and to the lives of its Indigenous people. Parkes Shire Council acknowledges the loss by the Indigenous Australians of their land and traditional lifestyles. We acknowledge the right of Indigenous Australians to live according to their own values and customs, subject to law, and as a Council commit ourselves to respect Aboriginal sacred sites and special places. The Council recognises the valuable contribution made to the Central West area of New South Wales by Indigenous people and looks forward to a future of mutual respect and harmony. Council supports Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians working together for a harmonious and prosperous future for all the inhabitants of Australia. |
