The Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (the Convention) was adopted by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) meeting in Paris on the 16 November 1972.
Detailed Information:
The Convention, by Article 8, establishes the World Heritage Committee which comprises the 15 States who are parties to the Convention. The World Heritage List is established by Article 11.1, which is a list of properties forming part of the cultural heritage and natural heritage, and Article 11.4 establishes a list of World Heritage in Danger. The Convention also establishes a World Heritage Fund (Article 15) for the protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage of Outstanding Universal Value. The Convention is registered with the Secretariat of the United Nations.
